I was homeless.
I didn’t have support from family or friends and there was no one I could call on for help. I don’t know a lot of people, either.
One day I was introduced to preparing taxes as a career choice through a job center. Soon I started working for a local tax preparation company. I enjoyed the work even though I felt like I was in over my head. I was helping people and I could finally afford a place to live. But the owner of the company didn’t give me adequate training, no training, really. I didn’t know if what I was doing was right or wrong and he didn’t seem to care. Not only that, but all the taxes I prepared went toward his own business so while he was charging people $400-500 each for what I was doing, I was only making $10 an hour.
Don’t get me wrong, I was grateful for the work. But I couldn’t help thinking that I’d rather be the one making $400-500 instead of $10.
Doing taxes wasn’t hard, but I didn’t feel like I knew everything I needed to be successful and I didn’t know where I could go to enhance my skills to do tax prep on my own. Taxx Savage helped me a lot by giving me good training AND the tools I needed to make my own business. Every year I have access to a discount from Taxx Savage to take the official IRS continuing education courses so I can stay on top of changes in the tax law.
Not only that, but I had 300 clients last year and I plan to expand my business by onboarding a few tax preparers using the free training provided by Taxx Savage. They curated an environment that wanted to see me win and I have! I’m so thankful for the change they’ve made in my life. I’m independent and have a home now, something I could never have done making $10 an hour working for someone else.
